This vehicle is a 1923 RLS 3rd series car and was manufactured shortly after September 1923. It carries chassis number 7639S. It has been in Australia since January 1924 and was landed by the Australian distributor, Overseas Motors.
It was imported as a driveable chassis, complete with scuttle, bonnet, lights and dashboard, and it is believed to be only of only two 3rd Series cars known to survive today.
Bodies were built in Australia, but were modelled along the lines of the cars illustrated in contemporary factory brochures.
The Museum vehicle was discovered on a farm in Victoria after the Second World War and only one previous owner was recorded, a local dentist. The second owner and discoverer of the vehicle retained it for many years until its purchase for the Lance Dixon collection in 1971.
The car was purchasedby Peter Briggs for display at the York Motor Museum in Western Australia in 1980 and the car has been in this collection ever since.
It remains a very original example of a very rare and desirable automobile.
